Literature Text
she always loved the sting of grapefruit
and the way the winter air kissed her skin,
leaving it pink and raw and sensitive to the touch
like the heart she tried so hard to hide.
but she never grew up, not really.
she always belonged to the rain
and never stayed in one place for too long.
she was afraid her stupid heart might dig in,
leave its roots in the people and then
it would rip and tear when she up and left.
and she never accepted the fact that
she did indeed have a heart.
she tried so hard to be hollow and
let the winter rain chill her skin and
soak into her bones so that she, too,
might be just as cold.
so she stopped believing in sunshine.
she accepted the title of rainfall kid,
and lived with thunder in her chest.

it only lasts a little while
at the bottom
there is
love
little hands
dissolving themselves
in the desperate
sunlight & waves
cut by ships
and continents
open
suspended
trembling as the water
passes through
hollow bodies restless
& agile
waiting for the sun

Little Fury
The storm throws you to my door, drenched and bloodied, god-light dimmed. The crest of the hill is underwater. You have no boots.
Morning dawns cold, clear, a watery gold. You are gone.

Sweet Kid
Bresh's allergic to strawberries.
The last time he ate some he spent two hours squeezing vomit through his swollen gullet, nearly drowning in spit, half-digested food and gastric acid before his father opted to throw him into the car and drive him to the ER. It was a suicide attempt. He knew he would go to hell for this. But Bresh had somehow banked on God not noticing that it wasn't accidental.
Death by strawberry.
He thought that was funny.

A sad tale but beautifully written
